Investigations on the tensile deformation of pure Mg and Mg–15Gd alloy by in-situ X-ray synchrotron radiation and visco-plastic self-consistent modeling

In this study, the texture evolutions of two Mg materials during tension are explored. In-situ X-ray synchrotron and Visco-Plastic Self-Consistent (VPSC) modeling employed to investigate different deformation modes between pure Mg–15Gd (wt.%) alloy. These with a strong extrusion show large slip/twinning activity behaviors tensile deformation. The basal ?a? slip has highest contribution initial stage plastic for Mg. During subsequent deformation, prismatic is dominant due ED // ?100? fiber texture. contrast, behavior alloy more complex. Twinning at early but further results in increased activation pyramidal slips. comparison Mg, ratios critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) non-basal much lower.
